GELLED GLASS AT GLASS,
The museum for glass art in Ebeltoft,
see the video, read the book
When I applied last year to participate in the Biennale for Craft and Design with the technique Gelled Glass, I never imagined for a moment that I would make it “through the needle’s eye.” But I did, and now a video, along with a physical presentation of the work process, is being showcased at the biennale, which features 26 participants and takes place at GLAS – The Museum of Glass Art in Ebeltoft.
Gelled Glass is a simple yet ingenious process, where glass powder, water, and alginate in a honey-like consistency are exposed to a CaCl₂ solution. The glass mass then gels through chemical cross-linking and can subsequently be shaped cold into threads, surfaces, or 3D objects.
The video can be viewed at the link below, and if you are interested in recipes and step-by-step instructions, they can be found in the booklet “Gelled Glass – A New Glass Technique”, which is available at Bullseye and Warm Glass. It is also translated into English and available as an e-book (in both Danish and English).
